March First Thursday: Lew Jones

Artist Lew Jones has been around Portland for some time, showing work in galleries, studying art as therapy among many more years of study. Jones has the ability to create in a piece a powerful nostalgic resonance, a feeling of remembrance, or maybe a gentle longing? The feelings are peace, warmth and understanding. Lew’s work feels grandfatherly.

In his work he creates a place that is easy to understand, but not so vivid that the view is stressed with unnecessary detail. Imagine a holistic picture that speaks more of a feeling than it does about visual facts. Some of Jones’ pieces beg to be placed in a gallery, where the white walls around would give space to breathe, to let the color and texture exist as their own. In a gallery his work would ahve the ability to create a presence of its own.

And that’s why we’re excited to have his pieces inside Seventy Seven!.

Please come in March 1st, from 7-9pm.

We’ll be serving food and drinks, and chatting with friends. Hope to see you there!
